Description of Work
This piece is made up of plaster and molded waxwork sculpture in white.
How it links to Ethereal
Lucy Ormes piece is perfect for our exhibition the whole design and concept link very strongly to Ethereal. The delicacy and beauty of the piece defines the ethereal and if there ever was a piece of artwork exemplifies that.
Interview
Emma Ginster talked to artist Lucy Orme about the concepts and context behind her work.
The foundation of the piece is plaster then the white crystallized looking parts are melted wax. Lucy made this piece when exploring liquid and solid forms therefore her work links strongly to time, and how things change shape and form during time. The key point is that the work is based on another dimension or another world which would link nicely my idea about having our show in two separate 'worlds' separated by material, we envisage putting this piece alongside similar subtle delicate pieces such as the glass shoes. I also think that the piece looks quite biological and is quite similar to Kerris's work with the tights, expect there is a juxtaposition with the colour and lack of it in Lucy's work, they also both connote a dystopian world. I'm unsure of how this piece should be displayed, as I'm not sure that a simple plinth would suit the work,if we go with the salt idea it might look good on a pile of salt or amongst some salt, or someone suggested a clear plinth with a light positioned underneath.
