Artist Interview - Sukhjinder Nahal

Description of Work

This piece is a large scale white sculptured cube acting as a framework interlaced with coloured threads.

How it links to Ethereal

Initially I thought this piece of art work did not relate to our theme of ethereal as much as other pieces that we have chosen. However knowing the work is about illusion and limitation reflects our theme as well as the delicacy of the material used and the pure white border in contrast to the colour used.

Interview

Megan Wellings interviewed Suhkjinder Nahal about her threaded cube which we are using in our exhibition.

She said her work was based on looking at illusion.
She wanted to try an change and create colour using very limited colours.
She uses thread because she wanted to use an everyday object that would not normally be used in art and transforming it into art work.
She mentioned refracting white.
The box was her first piece using thread and the only piece with a white wooden 'border'. She found this 'border' to be too thick so in pieces following this piece she worked without the wood/ white 'border' and was looking more into installation work with the thread.
